Marie Versailles Choquet was born in 1936 and undertook studies at the École des Beaux-Arts in Montreal and Concordia University. After raising a family, she began to revisit her creative side, showing her artworks in galleries throughout Quebec, Ontario and British Columbia. She came to create a greeting card company, featuring nostalgic images rich in colour featuring the relationships between of people with themes of love and family. Much of her artwork features people from the early 20th century complete with flappers and strange travelers with luminous, translucent bodies which float in space.
“Each painting or drawing is an adventure…The people in my paintings one day can be tall and thin and, the next day, fat and wide. One day I will paint using my imagination alone, as I mostly do, but another day, I will go to Charlevoix to paint its grandiose scenery, or at another time still, I may just paint the flowers in my garden." |
