Siggy Puchta was born in Germany in 1933, the son of a woodcarver.
At the age of nineteen, Siggy emigrated to Canada, where he worked as a woodcarver. In 1975, he taught woodcarving at Humber Valley while continuing to sculpt pieces.
He has exhibited in many successful shows throughout North and Central America. He is recognized internationally as a major Canadian talent, and much of his work is showcased at major Toronto landmarks – Woodbine Racetrack, the Metro Toronto Zoo, and the Provincial Government Buildings at Queen’s Park, to name a few.
Siggy has been a member of the Sculptors Society of Canada since 1965. Much of his work reflects his interest in capturing the moving human figure, expressed through dance and sports. |
