In order to achieve this luminous, unique affect, great care is taken in both the preparation of the acid free background and the removal of the majority of linseed oil from the oil paint, leaving the precise amount of pigment prior to application.

It takes proficiency, experience and immense control on the artist’s part, to manage this technique, ensuring that the painting retains the same qualities and characteristics as art work prepared in the traditional manner, i.e. darkening, washes, solid forms etc.

Spontaneity in this unique medium produces beautiful images that cannot be accurately reproduced due to the intricate nature of this work.

These works last for hundreds of years and this application was used by many of the early Impressionists.

Robert Katz was born in Romania in 1952.

Influenced greatly by European culture Katz spent many years living and painting in France, Italy, Greece, Holland and Germany.

He immigrated to Canada in 1977 and received his formal art training at L’ecole des Beaux –Arts in Romania.

Although reminiscent of the early Impressionists, his technique is purely and uniquely his own. Capturing the infiltration of light and the tranquility of nature at her best and shunning the urban landscape, he paints with spirituality influenced only by his inner self.

The melancholy figures of Robert Katz appear reflective, pensive an full of life experience, drawing in the viewer to interpret their thoughts and feelings.

There is a harmonious balance between his brushstrokes and his use of color in his landscapes. The old world charm and museum quality of his work is reminiscent of European masters and takes one to another time and place. He continues to thrill and inspire.

Robert Katz is a much sought after artist and his work may be found in collections throughout Europe, United States and Canada.

His trademark of authenticity is his fingerprint found on front and back of his work.

"In my youth I was consumed with trepidation by historical occurrences of the era. Maturity has not lessened the unfathomable consternation of subsequent cataclysmic events. Any hope of sanity and survival demands our attention and elucidation through the wisdom of the natural, rather than the contrived world"

-Robert Katz
