Gisele Comtois was born in St. Marc-sur-Richelieu, Quebec. She studied various aspects of fine art at the Musee des Beaux-Arts in Montreal, Cambrian College in Sudbury, McMaster University in Hamilton, as well as Sheridan College where her work has been the subject of academic study. Selected from a group of 600 artists, Ms. Comtois appeared in the "200 New Visions" book released last year featuring 200 of Canada's most influential artists.
Gisele, when not painting, enjoys playing tennis, skiing and is profoundly interested in the study of holistic health, healing and spirituality.
Gisele travels extensively, acquiring subject matter for her work; countless sketching trips exploring the Gaspe coast, Charlevoix, Laurentians, Eastern Townships in Quebec and the Maritimes, Northern Ontario, France, Brazil, Sicily, India and Egypt.
Her exciting experiences are depicted in the landscapes and archaeology found in the Valley of the Temples. Craters dating back to 460BC yeilded antiquities such as a vase, which later became a focused subject of Ms. Comtois' painting.
Currently, this versatile artist is completing work from sketches from her 2005 trip to India, where she shows her personal view of Northern India where the population share their lives in harmony with local animals. The profound spirituality and strength of this country was evident to her making an impression through the magnificent temples, the overall joy of the country that was once ruled by Maharajas.
Gisele's painting depict Egyptian persona, through centuries of Kings and Queens, the Nile, the Pyramids, the lavish Tombs of Saqqara, which lie in the heart of a vast burial ground, all showcase wealth and power. Gisele's paintings of India have been presented to the Consulate of India. Gisele is now working on another side of her personality and love of her work; Figurative.
Giseles's work is valued in private, corporate, and public collections throughout Canada, the U.S. and Europe.
