Born in 1949, Andrew Benyei developed an early interest in art. During his high school years, he was accomplished enough to teach art through programs at the YMCA and the world-renowned Royal Ontario Museum. He graduated from the University of Toronto with a degree in engineering, and shortly thereafter obtained a degree from the Ontario College of Art. He has been working full-time as an artist since 1990.
Benyei’s expressive contemporary sculpture explores the human condition both emotionally and physically. His works are personal emotional responses to the intricate and complex interactions of people whose expectations have been tempered by life. He uses a variety of mediums, including bronze, fiberglass, clay and resin. Benyei has received many awards, including Juror’s Choice form the Sculpture Society of Canada, and several People’s Choice Awards. |
