Maurice DeLangis was born in 1959 on the Hamilton mountain in Ontario, Canada.
His mother is Oneida and his father is Mohawk/French. Always involved in the arts, the paintings of Norval Morriseau led him to pursue his own work. In 1980 he began painting with great support from his family and friends. Maintaining the Woodland style, Maurice added his graphic and colorful flare, creating exciting works on canvas and paper and wood.
Maurice’s Indian name is “Hawk Flying High”. He signs his art with symbolics meaning “Hawk”. His style, as presently seen, as developed over the years. Today Maurice’s works can be found in collections in Canada, the United States, Germany, Japan, the Netherlands and around the world.
Maurice’s inspirations come from within. He has said, “When I sit down to work I have no preconceived images. I start with an empty piece of paper or canvas. At the end of the day I have created directly from my spirit.”
Maurice currently resides in Southern Ontario with his three sons.
